My Precious...

Remember Gollum? He was a character from J.R.R. Tolkien's Ring Trilogy. He was a "little" obsessed about a certain object; a piece of jewelry, let's say. He could often be found stroking and staring at his beloved object saying over and over, "my precious...". For those of you who may need a refresher on what that sounded like...

~*~

...here's a little clip from the movie

"The Lord of The Rings".

WARNING: It's not pretty!

Thank you, 420glass!!

Ewwwwwwwwwwwww!!

Creepy-scary, HUH!?!
Okay, maybe I'm not quite as badly obsessed as that guy,
but I did find something I can't stop staring at!
It is beautiful and perhaps, if I show you, then
you won't be able to stop staring at it, either!
It's this beautiful Three Muses Cameo
Tatting Shuttle made of rare pink ivory wood.

Isn't it pretty? It's "my precious", LOL!

Here's another angle...just in case you want more.

;)

It came as part of a set.

Here it is with the matching magnetic needle minder.
I special ordered it from Dave at

Grizzly Mountain Arts!

Dave is a gifted artist who hand carves

unique and beautiful needlework tools.

Take A Walk On The MILD Side

If you guessed that the title of this post is a tongue-in-cheek poke at the song "Take a Walk on the Wild side", then you guess right! It is!
For those of you who still might be in shock from my previous post I have something a little more on the mild side for you to help calm things down! I want to inform you that it does still have to do with a wild animal. It's okay, because there's no scary videos to introduce it; no flashy graphics; no bells and whistles. It's just a nice, warm, fuzzy tatting shuttle.

~*~
See?
Awww....now, isn't that cute?
It's a little pink bunny tatting shuttle!!!
See, that wasn't so bad for a "wild" animal was it?
Okay, if you thought that was okay,
then you might like this next one.
The Goddess tatting shuttle.
I found these while visiting my bloggy friend,
Here's her blog post on these very shuttles.
Noreen is a talented needle artist who
does all kinds of needlework and she makes and
sells unique and original needlework tools
that are whimsical and fun.
Here is her Website.
She also has an Etsy shop!

Here they are together!
How sweet!
They are great friends!

They even play well together!
Click on the photo to be taken to the start of the TIAS pattern!
I am currently getting caught up on the latest TIAS.
TIAS means "Tat It And See"
In a TIAS tatters from all over the world participate online.
A tatting pattern is given to the tatter a little bit at a time.
Only the designer knows what the end result will be.
So, I actually have no idea what I am tatting! LOL!
The picture above is TIAS Day 1.
This TIAS is being hosted at the blog known as The Tattingplayer.
She's actually a well known tatting designer
from Italy named Iris Niebach! She is known for her
beautiful and intricate tatting designs and she has published
several lovely tatting books! I have all of them!
If you click on her name above it will take you to
her website and you can see some of her lovely
books and exquisite tatting designs.

By now you may have noticed that I have a taste
for whimsical needlework tools!
Here's a photo of my current WIP
with my black sheep measuring tape!
Isn't he cute? I guess sheep are a domesticated
animal so they don't count as a wild animal.
If you like sheep stories then hop on over to
Bella Sinclair's! She's got a very humorous
sheep story to share with you!
Hope you weren't scared too
Baa-a-a-a-a-adly

Wild Thing!!!

You make my heart sing!

You make

EVERYTHING

I have always heard that this song, entitled "Wild Thing", was made famous by Jimi Hendrix. I must confess... I am NOT a Jimi Hendrix fan at all, (and I'm OKAY with that) but sometimes the words to that song do ring true and this would be one of those times. In doing research for this post (yes, I do "research" for my posts) I found out that this song was originally made famous in 1966 by a group called "The Troggs". I found them to be much more palatable than Jimi Hendrix. Sorry, Jimi Hendrix and fans... remember, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Case and Point

These next two videos illustrate very well the

difference between

Unpalatable vs. Palatable

in music performances.

Ummm...Jimi Hendrix being the former.

WARNING: the first video is truly "wild"

while the second video is quite a bit more "tame".

On second thought,

you may just want to skip over the first

video and move on to the second video, LOL!

Bless his heart

Thank you, tfme.
Note the look of absolute horror on the girls' faces
after Jimi's "stunning" 1967 performance.

VS.

Thank you, Ianabroad.
Note, while the girls may look bored out of their gourds,

they do not look horrified during this 1966 ditty.

See what I mean, Jelly Bean???

End Case and Point.

~*~

What on earth does this have to do with tatting?

Have you SEEN my new tatting shuttle?

It's totally WILD!!!

Here it is!

It's a tatting shuttle carved out of a gourd
with a hand painted leopard print on it!!!

Here's a side view of it.
It's a post shuttle.

See the little "post" in between the boat-shaped pieces?

I custom ordered it from

Alexandra Beatty Designs

after I saw this post on Lace-Lovin' Librarian's blog.

Alexandra Beatty Designs took a custom

order from me to paint a leopard print on a shuttle.

She sent it in this lovely pink silk bag.

Isn't it pretty?

Now, you may ask yourself, "Why would someone

want a leopard print custom painted onto a tatting shuttle?"

The answer to that is: "Because they don't come that way!"

AND "Because I needed a leopard print tatting shuttle to go

with my leopard print Gingher scissors and my tiger striped

measuring tape! Why else?"

See!!! rrrrraaaaawwwwwrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

~*~

Hee hee! I have been looking for years for a leopard print tatting shuttle so I was just a little bit excited to show it to you, LOL! Thanks for sharing in the excitement of it all with me. The designer tells me that it is "green", too! She does not use any pesticides to grow her gourds. This very shuttle will be featured on a "green" website and I will share the link to that article on this post when it is made available to me.

Next you may be wondering why I'm not tatting with it right now. Well, who has time to tat when there's so much....um.....errrr.... "research" yeah, that's it, research that needs to be done on the internet!

;)

Luv,

TattingChic
