Demonstrating Tatting at The Handcart Days in Bountiful, Utah

Hello my bloggy friends! I guess it's been awhile, hasn't it? A lot has happened in my life since we last "spoke"... I guess I've got a lot of explain' to do, but before we get into all that let me share with you about what I did today! I went with someone from my local tatting group, "The Bonneville Tatters" to "The Handcart Days" in Bountiful, Utah and demonstrated tatting! It was really a nice day and we shared the lovely art of tatting with quite a few interested parties!

I even captured part of the day in some pics! Here, let me share them with you!

First, here is my partner in crime, Nannette.
She is tatting away diligently at something.
She even gave me permission to share her
pic on my blog! Wasn't that nice of her?

You can kind of get an idea of our table layout from this picture!
We had all kinds of tatted goodies we were displaying.

Of course as luck would have it the project I
was working on had a ring that wouldn't close
so I wasn't a very good "demonstrator"... LOL!

Here are some close ups of some of the tatted
goodies we were displaying...

...we had tatted lanyards and necklaces.

tatted brooches, snowflakes, earrings, doilies, bookmarks,
hearts, and of course, tatting shuttles!

This pictures shows a piece with some cluny work
that I haven't shown on my blog before and a pink
bookmark that Rozella Linden sent me once.
Yes, "THE" Rozella Linden...She has written books
on Celtic Tatting. Some of my tatting friends that are
involved in the online community may know her by her
real name "Ruth Perry". She also sent me a tatting shuttle...
...but that's a whole 'nother blog post! ;)

We were in an Art Center in Bountiful so there was a
bounty of beautiful artsy pieces to look at!
I snapped a few pics of things that caught my eye!

For instance this intriguing and beautiful necklace
was on display right behind us!
Isn't it gorgeous?
It looks like it was made out of all natural pieces.

Then in the center of the room and in front
of our table was this beautiful children's dress.
It was gorgeous!

Well, that was my Saturday! How was yours? Feel free to share what you think about our day at "The Handcart Days" in the comments! I've missed my bloggy friends but it's been hard to blog without a camera handy! I will share more in the near future now that I have a camera!... or well, actually...camera software!
(((huggles)))

XOXO

  2. Hi TattingChic,

How lovely to see you back again and what a fun time that must have been tatting and demonstrating this beautiful work with all your friends.

  3. Hi Singtatter! Thank you for the nice words about the tatted lace. It was a nice day to be able to go and share the tatted pieces with people and explain about tatting and share that it is "KNOT a lost art!" ;) LOL! I think I am fortunate to be in an area where the local tatting group has about anywhere from 30-50 people that attend regularly! They are a really great bunch! I have to say it is really well organized!

Hi Carolyn! It's nice to see you too! Thanks for the Happy 4th of July wishes! I am enjoying my 3 day weekend I must say! It was a nice day to go and demonstrate, although I did just go with the one lady, Nannette, in the photo and it was the first time I met her! Ha ha! I recently moved from California to Utah and that is 700 mile move so I am still getting acquainted with people here! I have a few friends though! :) I am so glad you stopped by my blog!

I have been wondering how you are.
Hope that life in Utah goes well for you, it can often take time getting used to a new place.

That's some fine looking tatting. So nice of you to share your love of tatting with others. Looks like fun. Can't wait to see what else you've been up to, besides moving. Take care.

Have a Happy 4th of July tomorrow!

  11. Oh Wowee Carolyn! Not once but TWICE on one blog post comments! YAY! I'm so lucky! :) I did enjoy my visit over at your blog! In fact I am really enjoying my blog rounds this weekend! It's so nice to have a 3 day weekend with the 4th of July holiday to get caught up! :) Utah is being very good to me. I grew up in Utah...not the area I am in right now but I did grow up here, nonetheless... I just haven't been here for 20 years, LOL! It's nice to see there are many changes for the better as far as shopping and transportation goes and somethings still haven't changed...ha ha ha! Like some ....attitudes...but I'll keep that rant to myself! LOL! ;)

Hello Lace Hearts, it's nice to see you too! I'm glad you enjoyed the child's dress! I think the photo turned out well, but even with that, it just didn't do it justice! It's so much lovelier in person but I think it the photo did give the idea of how pretty it was. They did a good job of the lighting at the art center...as they usually do at art centers! ♥

Hi Fox, thank for your nice post! I haven't disappeared! I've been hanging out on facebook mostly! So if you are on there feel free to come find me! :) That is where I seem to spend most of my time when I am not blogging! I guess I have heard facebook called the "microblog" these days! LOL! That it is...it seems to be!

Diane, lucky YOU getting to go to 2 lace events! I've never been to one! WOW! I would love to go to one! Well, unless you count "Lace Day" in LA then I've been a couple of times, but that's not strictly tatting it's Lace related and they do sell tatting items and it's only for a few hours on the 1st Saturday in November every year in Torrance, CA! It's put on by the Freeway Lacers in the LA area! I will be kissing THAT good-bye now that it is hundreds of miles away from me! It was just fun to be able to browse through the books before you bought them! They didn't have any tatting classes or anything.

Hi Tatskool! Thanks for your nice post! I hope you saw your pink beaded heart there in the photos! I certainly picked that up and showed it off as an example to let people know that tatting could be used with beads and people "oooohed" and "Aaaaahed" over it because the beautiful silver lined beads really stand out with that particular lovely pink! It's also such a lovely heart anyway and your tatting is so immaculate! It was just a beautiful example! It was so nice telling people it came from a friend from Ireland and how many friends I had online and about the swaps I've done! They thought that was so neat!

Hi Happy Bluebird! Yes...even though that dumb ring wouldn't close I focused on showing off the pieces here and there and the different things you can do with tatting! They did not seem to miss out on it since the other lady was tatting away! LOL!

Hi Jeff! Good to see ya! I do not plan on disappearing anytime soon! My deal was finding the camera software! Now that it has been solved I think I'm in business again! :) I hope you had a great Canada Day yourself! I am so glad to have a 3 day weekend you do not even know! :) Yay!

  12. Welcome back, Chiclet!! Missed your facinating posts and very good to see one today.
I met a wonderful tatter from your area in Utah, Aloma, when we were at Shuttlebirds in Spokane last April. Enjoy living around so many tatters, you lucky gal! Karen in OR who is looking forward to seeing more from you.

  13. Hello! Hello! Hello!!! Tatting Chic!!!

Thank you for stopping by and for your lovely and funny comment. Hahahahah! Sniffing oil. Hahhahaha! You know, I am now using low odor or oderless mineral spirit for my brush cleaning fluid so there is no more turpentine and mineral spirit smell, which I think may be dangerous because I am actually smelling the vapors without knowing it...

Well! Lookie here!!! So many nice photographs. You must have a new camera??? I like that huge egg necklace holder.

  14. Good to have you back! Nice to see what fellow tatters are doing and even events that are not commonplace here. Thanks for sharing.

  16. Hi Chiclet, great to see you back blogging, we missed your newsy posts.

sounds like you have a great time demonstrating.

what wonderful tatting you had laid out for everyone to look at.
sorry to hear that you had trouble with your project, isn't that always the way, to have trouble when you least need it?

glad to see you survived the move o.k.

  17. Hi Karen, I will look for someone named Aloma...the name sounds familiar. I think she does judging for tatting for the county fair and spoke at our last tatting meeting about how to make your tatting presentable for the fair.

Hello Hello Ces! You have such a delightful sense of humor I knew you could handle my teasing you! Do be careful while painting now you hear! ;)

Hi Val, how are you? Good to hear from you! Ya know I don't think that those events are even commonplace everywhere in the US. I remember moving out of Utah 20 years ago and they just don't have events like that everywhere. The only place I got to go demonstrate with my lace group in California was at the county fair once a year and they didn't have local "Days" like they do for every community here in Utah. They didn't do it in Nevada either when I lived there either.

Yes, Tatskool, I DO treasure that pink heart! It sat out on my end table from the day I received it until the day I had to move and it went into a special tatting box and THAT went into a special cardboard box labelled "SPECIAL TATTING" LOL! So I could find it amidst my sea of boxes! I still have about 70 boxes to unpack but I was able to find THAT! LOL! ;)

Hi LadyTats! :) Thank you for stopping by to visit! Yes... I survived the move! I had some help! I had a very nice friend come down from Utah with his brother who helped drive the moving van so I could drive my car and not have to hook it up to a trailer! It really helped especially since there was snow and ice on the roads here in Utah at the time. It was nice and sunny in San Diego, of course but not so in Utah! I sure was grateful for the help!

  23. So nice to see you blogging again!
What a beautiful display you had there. I have to admit that I envy you having a tatting guild close by with so many active members! I've been trying to get one started in my area for years. Well, maybe if some of my new students get enthused enough, we'll get one going someday.
Keep on blogging - your posts are so inspiring!

  24. Hi Liyarra! I appreciate the warm welcome! I have really missed you and all my bloggy friends in the bloggerhood! It is good to be back! I have lots to share!

Hello there CrazyMom! Howaya? I am glad you stopped by on your blog rounds! The exhibit was nice and I am glad I went. There was even a guy there throwing pots on a pottery wheel!

Hi Yarnplayer! I think it would be great for you to be able to get a tatting group going in your area! I can't believe how nice this one is here. I belonged to a Lace Guild in San Diego and it was tiny compared to this one and it was for ALL kinds of laces. There was only a few of the 12 or so ladies that went that tatted. And of that the lady that kept getting re-elected had the GALL to say that tatting wasn't "REAL LACE" ...ummmmkay....you can imagine how well THAT went over with me! ...sigh.. anyway...It is great to be involved with a group that is exclusively for tatting and has so many people involved and SO organized to! It's wonderful!

  30. It sounds like you had a lot of fun. I like to tat when we are set up to sell at markets and people always like to tell me about how tatting is a dying art. My husband keeps suggesting that I encourage those people to buy my tatted items since they may never see tatting again...Ha!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hi Karen T! :) Thanks so much for stopping by! It's always fun to meet a fellow tatter! I think that I may have heard the saying "Tatting is a lost art" and do you know what tatters here online and in my tatting group like to say in response to that? "Tatting is KNOT a lost art!" It's actually true that it is NOT a lost art. It's alive and well and thriving. Karen, the online community is alive and well and not only that in my tatting group alone there are over 300 members here in Utah (according to what the president of the group told me) and last meeting (we meet once a month there were over 60 that met (the president tells me that there's around 40-60 ACTIVE members)....and NO, they are not all a bunch of OLD ladies, LOL! ;)
There's even a couple of men there and one of the men brings his children that tat! Just saying...

  43. It doesn't look like you've been to your blog lately, unless I just don't know where to look. My name is Diana and I am in PA. But I lived in Utah a while ago-Provo, SLC, Bountiful, Woods Cross, and Ogden. I was taught to tat while I worked at First Security Bank in SLC, out past the airport. My friend who taught me was named Susan Q. I've lost rack of her when I left Utah in 1988. I love tatting.

I'd love to hear what you have to say!

While you're leaving your comment so dear
This is what I'd rather hear...

If "TattingChic" seems like it's too long
"Chic" or "Chiclet" will sound like a song.

In other words, you see,
Please don't call me "TC"!

Please! :)
...and thank you!
