Start of A Doily

As I mentioned in an earlier post I am involved in a Pretty Doily Tat-A-Long initiated by Melissa of HoneyBeesBliss and myself over at eTatters. Melissa has been great about starting, but I got caught up in a few other projects here and there. So today, being a holiday here in the good ol' US of A (Happy Memorial Day, everyone) I had time to get started on it.

This is just the center and when it's done it will look something like this. Isn't that pretty? That's a slight variation of the pattern we are doing which you can find here. The thread I am using is DMC Cordonnet Special size 60 in white. I really like the sturdiness and smoothness of the thread. I find I have an easy time closing the rings despite it's smaller size. By the way, it's an open invitation so anyone is welcome to join in the tat-a-long and eTatters is free to join.

This will be counted as one of my motifs for the 25MotifChallenge once the entire doily is tatted.

Melissa is tatting this as her first doily...I am tatting this as a distraction to keep me occupied until this little beauty arrives from Melissa. I can hardly stand the anticipation! I'm so excited!!! Good thing there is this doily to tat to help me from exploding from the exciting anticipation. Oh, did I mention I was excited? I wasn't quite sure if I made that clear...LOL!

Thank you for visiting. Feel free to leave a comment and know that all of your comments are read and appreciated. I love blogging and it's because of all the reader comments that make it so much fun, thank you, readers and your comments!! That means YOU!!!

Peace out,

TattingChic

WooHoo! You finally got to start yours!! LOL I started round 3 make sure you note the correction I mentioned at eTatters, it's minor but I was a dunce and missed it and ended up cutting out what I'd done to start over when I realized it on the second repeat...not that big a deal but now I have 2 repeats done correctly and I could have had 4 done by now! LOL
Well I better make sure that block gets out in tomorrows mail!!!!!!!! LOL

Hi Melissa, thanks for the 'note of caution' on that 3rd round, good to know. I will check that out on the eTatters forum. WooHoo! My CQ square is getting out in the mail tomorrow...I wonder if you get your tatting from me tomorrow. Wouldn't that be funny?

Melissa said...

Oh that would be awesome if it came tomorrow! I'll be away tomorrow, Hubby is getting an MRI for his hip stuff so I'll be tatting that 3rd round while waiting.

Unknown said...

Oh, I'm sorry to hear your hubby is having some health issues. Tatting is a good thing to have around while waiting for doctor stuff that's for sure. I hope everything turns out ok.

I love the start to this doily! I'm not up to this challenge, but I'm sure I'll try another one. Right now I'm looking very carefully at Black Magic... I know I've messed it up before, but I'm sure there's hope for me!

Unknown said...

What??? The GROOVY TATTING MACHINE is not up to the challenge, I DON'T believe it!!!!....ROFLOL...just kidding. You must be worn out from tatting all those bookmarks. You must have them in your dreams. Thank you for visiting and leaving a comment, Diane. :)

Diana, the wonderul artist of angels, thank you for stopping by for a visit. I'm glad you like the ice cream cones...and what a fabulous idea for a cupcake!!! They're so IN why didn't I think of that sooner. Well I'll have to see what can be done about that....LOL Thanks for the idea!

Ais said...

OYE!! Slow down will ya!! *Just Kidding* The last I came here I saw the Ice cream cone and went off to do that and when I come back... I am so left behind! The cone still needs the 'cone' and I came back to check how to do it and I find myself completely in love with that doily!! I want to do it too but then I don't think I am ready for big projects yet... or am I...hmm.... what to do...?

I absolutely loved your cushion and the bookmark and... whatever else that I am forgetting! :)

Boxwood Cottage said...

Hi! I popped over to thank you for the very enjoyable comment you have left on my blog today! You are always welcome!
Happy tatting!
Best wishes from Germany sends
Carola

Unknown said...

Ais, you are so cute. Hey, if you can do an ice cream cone you can do a doily. How do you know if you're ready for a doily? I say if you're dying to do it, then do it, but yeah, finish the cone on the ice cream cone, first, other wise you'll end up with a box of UFO's like I have...LOL
(UFO's = UnFinished Objects)

Carol, thank you for stopping by and for your comment. I enjoyed your garden very much.

rpsfvymOh, what gorgeous work! I'm speechless... I came over to say hi and to thank you for leaving a sweet comment on my blog, and I see this... Ugh, you are one talented lady. I've seen tatting done, but have never tried myself. Would you come teach me? I'll feed you good! LOL
Enjoyed my visit here so much... I'll be back!

Unknown said...

Awww, thanks Sharon. Well, I am glad you stopped by my blog as well. I look forward to seeing what sort of sewing creations you put on your blog. What a fun thing to do this summer. Let me know how it goes.

Well, Farm Chick Paula, I would LOVE to go to Tennessee and teach you to tat and eat some delicious, healthy home grown farm food. That would be fun. I hear it's beautiful out there in Tenessee. Do come back for a visit. I'd love to have ya, your comments are always welcome here.

I want to be a tatter too! Do you have any recommendations for a good book or website to learn from?

Unknown said...

Hello Beth Leintz, welcome to my blog and thank you for your comment. So, you want to be a tatter...always a wonderful desire that I would encourage anyway I can. A good book... "Fancy Pants" silly name, but has good photos for beginners...a trusted website to order it from is handyhandstatting.com I have ordered from her she is dependable and heard of her word of mouth from other tatters. A good website. I'll tell you of 2 one is called "Sharon's Tatting" and there is a link to it under my "Tatting Links" on the right. She has videos and stuff. Another is a forum type website that I love called "eTatters" and there's a badge on the right almost at the top just click on it and you can join for free and ask question...lurk around at other tatters pictures and pages and comment or stay anonymous. I highly recommend all of those and I also recommend learning on DMC cebelia size 10 crochet thread to learn with...it's easier to handle and see what you're doing. Get your favorite color, try to avoid white at first as it soils easy while you're learning your hands sweat and get the thread dirty. I think that's enough to get you started. Come back and let me know how you're doing or say high on eTatters. Feel free to check out any or all the links on my sidebar on tatting...that's what they're there for...wow that was a novel...maybe even a whole post, but there you have it, good luck!

Your pictures are amazing - I adore lace to look at, but have never tried it but I crochet. (But not very ambitious projects.) Would I be able to try tatting, do you think? I'd love to produce some of the things you are doing. It must be so relaxing.
I'm so glad you stopped by and led me here! And thank you for your kind comment on my blog.

Lace hearts said...

ps. I love your blog so much, I've added you to my fave blogs so I'll definitely stop by again...and again.... I do hope that's okay with you.

Unknown said...

Dear Lace Thread, Do I think you could try tatting...OF COURSE!!!
Is it okay that you added my blog to one of your faves and you come again and again...OF COURSE!!! Please do. I would love it and I'm so glad you came to visit. If you seriously would like to learn tatting let me know. Also there is a comment right above your 2 comments that tells some recommendations for a newbie. If you are interested, please read that as it would definately apply to you, too. I'm so glad you came by, did I already say that? I meant it if I did.

That doily is beautiful! I would love to try something like that someday. Your work is so inspiring - thanks :)

Thank you, Artsy Threads, I hope you do try something like that. You can check everyone's progress over at eTatters if you'd like. I promise to post a pic of it when I'm finished. I'm done with round 3already.

Hi there - thanks for your reply. I've checked out your answer to the comment above my first comment, which I hadn't seen, and will look into getting hold of the book you mention. I do find your stuff so inspirational and definitely want to try this.
Thanks again for replying.
