Vintage Inspired Tatting Design...I've Been Tagged!!!..AND I WON! I WON! I WON!..again!!!

What a fun day in Blogger-land today! I've had 3 really really cool things I want to share with you today.

The first thing I want to share is this bookmark I designed and tatted over the last 24 hours.

Motif # 7
Vintage Inspired Tatted Rosette Bookmark
Design by TattingChic

This bookmark has utterly consumed my entire being for the last 24 hours! It all started when my friend Matt...

( he gave me permission to use his first name and last name, address, phone number and run a small advertisement for him that he is single and available. I opted to just use his first name and State of residence in the US...there's a link to his my space page on his name...please don't judge him by the pic of the wierd girls with the pink wigs where his photo should be...that's NOT him! Besides, he's a nice guy.)

... from Connecticutt said to me, "TattingChic...." well, he really didn't say "TattingChic" but you get the idea right? He said, "TattingChic....will you tat something for me?"
I was actually kind of surprised by the request as he doesn't seem the kind of guy who would request a piece of handmade lace, but we never really know people, do we? LOL!
I said, "Okay..." thinking about how he's really kinda helped me out in a tight spot in the past and probably deserves a little tatting, "I know, I'll tat you a bookmark! What color do you want, blue?"
To my utter surprise he came back with "White....yeah...white....no...red roses...I want red roses with white...."
"Uhmmmm....okay...are ya sure about that Matt?", I said knowing that this guy is not effeminate in the least and has a powerful attraction toward women. Not that heterosexual men can't be liking red roses or lovely things, that's not what I'm saying...so what am I saying?

I really don't know what it is I'm saying...I'm very sleep deprived right now, go easy on me...LOL

He said most assuredly, "Yup, red roses, that's what I want...and white...and I want it BIG, too
none of this little stuff."
Okay, I know a way around that. I used size 20 thread...LOL! The bookmark measures 9 inches long and is 2 and 1/4 inch wide...Is THAT big enough for ya, Matt?

So, here's the thing. I know there are other rosette style bookmarks out there and they're nice, they're okay, but they're just not something I wanted to spend my time tatting so I happened to have these vintage workbasket needlework magazines out that I inherited from my Grandma and I felt inspired by this old baby bonnet pattern from the Feb 1969 Workbasket. I've tatted that bonnet when I was fifteen and it was just beautiful. So, I redesigned the rosettes a bit more to my liking and connected 5 of them with a round also of my own design. I had to cut off the first design as it had severe design flaws, but the mathematics of the stitch count all worked out in the end so this is what I ended up with.
It's way too big for a regular bookmark I would normally make, but it's MATT's bookmark. I'll probably redesign it again just for fun.

Here's where the obsession came in. Yesterday at 3:00pm I started drawing the picture
of the bookmark design I saw in my head. Wrote in my own version of shorthand the pattern and tatted for about 2 hours.
I woke up at 12:45am...couldn't sleep...started tatting...til 4:30am...ate breakfast and then tatted
it all day until 5:00pm I couldn't stop! I did eat, but I just couldn't stop til it was done. Wierd, that!

The second fun thing I want to share is that...
I've been TAGGED by
Barb at The French Element!
Thank you, Barb :)
She has a great blog you should go take a gander
when you get a chance.

It's my first tag...tee hee!

Here are the rules:
1. Link back to the person that tagged you.

2. Post the rules on your blog.

3. Share 6 unimportant things about yourself.

4. Tag 4 people at the end of your entry.

6 Unimportant things about TattingChic

1. I own 3 versions of "Pride and Prejudice" videos.

2. I think that Red Vines or Twizzlers make a great straw

for my Diet Coke at the movies if you bite off each end and stick it into

the cup it lends a strawberry/cherry essence to the Diet Coke...yum.

3. I never could get into Soap Operas.

4. I've never been to an Opera.

5. I think that Colin Firth is kind of a hottie....yeah, I do....

(but then, so is Charlie Sheen and Brad Pitt, well, he's okay...LOL)

6. German Chocolate Cake is my absolute favorite cake.

And there you have it folks, now don't you feel deeply enriched and like you know me
so much better now?

Okay so now it's time to tag 4 other people...heh heh heh...(rubs hands together)
I Tag....
1. Dantatter
2. TattyCat
3. Diane
4. Melissa

Okay girlies...get taggin'! I know I know, some of you have already been tagged, but that's what you get for being such special peeps in blogger-landia!

Added Edit: June 19, 2008 Please consider the tag optional. It's all about having fun and getting to know each other better. :)

So, thirdly, this is another fabulous thing that

happened to me today!!!

I WON!!! I WON!!! I WON!!!

Remember the fortune cookie? Well, I think it's still working because the lovely Laurie over at Charming Designs has informed me that I won the Giveaway Friday she most recently had! Yippee Skippee!

She gave me permission to use the pics from her blog to show you the wonderful hand painted message board that she made.

Here's the full view.

Here's a closeup of Laurie's beautiful hand painted flowers.
She also makes these adorable birdies and whimsies and pretties. You really should check out her blog, too when you get a chance. It's fun.

Well, thank you to my Tatting Muse for keeping me up all night and to Barb and Laurie for a wonderful day in Blogger-land!

I wish you all the very best of luck and I'm very glad that you stopped by for a visit. Please remember that comments are always welcome. I enjoy each and everyone of them.

Come again!

Hey Chic! That bookmark is great. I can see why it was consuming you because labor and delivery take some time and energy. And you certainly have a beautiful baby!

Unknown said...

Hey Joy! How ya doing? It's really nice to have you come visit. It's funny the labor and birth analogy you used because I often feel that way about the poetry I write. Yes, I am exhaused. I think I'll go to bed early tonight...LOL.
Please do come back for another visit! I enjoy your lovely tatting.

Pretty stuff! You are one lucky chic! Come by and enter my giveaway! :)

Oh, Okay, white and red looks cool to me. Lucky you to have won - again!

I've been through situations like this a number of times before, especially when there is this great idea that is floating around in the head and won't go away until you do something about it. And that is even before the tatting begins.

And when I start, it is always 'one more ring/chain and then I'll take a break' situation repeated many times over until I lose count before I actually stop. And that is usually the time when I need to get lunch/dinner on the table or when I really, really can't keep my eyes opened anymore.

Unknown said...

Thank you Vintage Paper Bella ~ Andrea...I just did!

Oh, Jon, I soooo totally know what you are talking about! That's exactly what happened to me....one more ring...one more...chain...then I'll eat....or sleep.....
Now I really HAVE to go to bed...LOL!

What a beautiful bookmark! Your friend is going to love it! I made a mental note of the Twizzler idea! LOL Oh, and IMO, opera is overrated :)

No wonder you have so many visitors to your blogs. Have anybody experienced that some journals are missing, and I have to refresh EVERY blog to ensure I have not missed any. But TattingChic - after refresh I missed the previous few journals.

You better get some rest... take care!

The bookmark is grand! What a lucky guy. Did I ever mention how talented you are. Truly blessed. Now can you wrap that fortune cookie fortune back up and send it to me? LOL

Unknown said...

Thank you Jen R. I'm glad you came for a visit!

Hi Honey Bee-Melissa. I think I'm going to go get me some of that Honey Bee Vanilla ice cream from Haagen-Daas to help save the honeybees. Plus I LOVE vanilla ice cream. I'm glad you like the bookmark.

Thanks, LadyShuttleMaker...I was bit by the tatting bug a long time ago...LOL it's just that I'm now sharing my tat-a-holism with the world. Admitting it is the first step right? I told Steve, er...Matt that I was finished with the bookmark already last night on the phone. He goes..."WHAT??? That was FAST!!!" LOL...he sounded excited about it.
BTW, isn't P&P the best! I hope you took them to Korea with you!
Well, why don't you send me some size 100 silks so we can both find out...wink wink...

Hey, Grizzly Mountain Arts, you SHOULD try that twizzler in the diet coke thing....you could call it a "Grizzly Twizzly" wadda ya think?

Zarina, I'm sorry you are having so much trouble reading everyone's posts on their blogs, but I am very glad you came for a visit and commented. Maybe it's your server. I don't seem to be having any problems. I hope the issue resolves itself soon. Thank you for coming by! :)

ROFLOL...LSM....I so do that all the time with names. You are so not alone in that...LOL...still chuckling everytime I read it.

Hi TattyCat! I'm glad you could come for a visit, even if just for a bit. I know there was a lot for one blog post it was like a threeforone. There was no getting around it I really wanted to post them all yesterday...so I did! Come back soon...HAPPY BIRTHDAY WEEK TO YOU!!!

Thanks for visiting Tracy. Too bad you don't live closer we could put in the old 8 hr BBC version of Pride and Prejudice with Colin Firth...sigh...and drink diet cokes out of twizzler straws and craft together all DAY!!! Wouldn't that be fun!

Hey Farm Chick Paula, what a pleasure to have you stop by and I enjoyed your comment. It was a lot, huh? But it sure made for a fun day yesterday...boy was I tired after all of that tatting.

Hello Kathy, thanks for coming by to visit. Thank you for your very nice compliment. That was a lucky fortune cookie, wasn't it. They're fun to open. Yesterday while I was tatting and after I found out I won and got tagged I got a craving for chinese food and so I got another fortune cookie...haven't opened it yet. Ya want it? LOL!

Hi there, thank for the welcome back, I am happy to be home again, but really missing my BFF so much...
The men needed some serious help with their diet, (no greens for 7 whole days!), and the laundry etc. so now I am still trying to get on top of it all, one more bedroom to go and I will feel clean again!
I loved your manly rose bookmark, how gorgeous is that??? WOW! He is going to flip over it!
Bless you today, and I will try and pop over in a day or two to catch up on all of the posts I missed...
XO,
DL

Unknown said...

Thank you, Rosemary.

Hi Darly, I'm a firm believer that there's plenty of good fortune for all. No borrowing necessary, you can have some and mine will be none less. How's that?

Thanks for stopping by, Donna Lynn. Hope you get caught up on everything. You are one busy gal. I know you'l keep in touch with your sis. Thanks for the compliment on the manly bookmark. I think it's so cute that he wanted one.

Barb said...

Twizzlers or red vines with diet coke. Not sure about that but I will give it a try.

The bookmark is fab! How do you do that? It looks so delicate.

Thank you for playing tag. I enjoyed learning more about you.
You have to get that book-lol funny!

Wow, a google alert. I had received a pm from someone on Victoria forum and I thought she would enjoy your site.

Ok I need to stop rambling.....

Unknown said...

Hi Barb, thanks for stopping by. I really did enjoy the tag, thanks agian for thinking of me.
Thanks for the compliment on the bookmark. It was a lot of thought and work, but it was worth it. I'm still trying to catch a nap...LOL.
Yes, I really must get Becky's book French by Heart.
Try the twizzlers...it's only good if you already like twizzlers and diet coke. You have to have several twizzler or redvine replacements too as the straws tend to get eaten...oopsy..don't know how THAT happens!
As you can see rambling is perfectly acceptable here in my comments section...LOL!

Anonymous said...

Again?? You won again? Now, could you please tell me some lucky numbers for tomorrow? I don't ever play but for this once I can reconsider it...

I think the bookmark will be used to be shown, to be admired by ladies; maybe it's a strategy. That's why it has to be big and attractive. Have you considered that? ;-)

Oh, the painted work on the message board is great, more embellishment for your home.

One more thing: I'm just back, so I'll write soon. I have to catch up with everything.

Ais said...

The book is really pretty! And wow, really good luck is following you around...

Why is it that I come back to comment on the last post and it is 'past'!! ANyway, the heart was beautiful and Gee... I am really sorry that you have nothing to tat with! My sympathy... then ;)

Same pinch! I did my heart in size 20 DMC cebelia too

Unknown said...

Hi Verito, Thank you for visiting. Hey, you can have the numbers off the bottom of the fortune cookie's fortune.
I have considered what you said, I've also considered that he may have wanted it to GIVE to some girl, which I asked him and he swears up and down it's for him. Okay, cuz I'm not tatting some bookmark for some girl he's dating no way...I only tat for very very special people. Ah, well, I have no control over what someone does with a gift you give them anyway so...what can ya do.
I look forward to your email.

Hi Ais. Thanks for visiting. I appreciate the comments. I'd love to see the heart you made. I wonder which pattern you used. I love tatted hearts they're one of my fave things to tat.

rosemary said...

Hey Chic, thanks for your comments on my blog. Seems we like some of the same things--cake and cookie decorating, Christmas, Jane Austin, and Colin Firth. I don't tat, but love the work you do! I love people who carry on traditions and things that their grandparents and parents taught them.

Rebecca Ramsey said...

I can't imagine a nicer person to get all that good luck!
And your comment over at The French Elements made my day!
Hugs to you!
(And I love that bookmark!)

And a big thank you to you, Rosemary, for visiting my blog, too! I enjoyed your comment. Jane Austen is an amazingly gifted writer to have her writings still touch the hearts of women today is a diving gift. Yes, cookies and christmas...oh, just the best. If I had this blog at Christmastime last year it would've been a completely different blog I made 200+ cookies for friends, family and co-workers it was fun.

Hello, Becky, I am so glad to have made your day because you make my day everymorning when I read your very humorous and heartwarming posts on your blog and I meant every word of what I said on Barb's post about your book. I'll probably tat a bookmark to match it...LOL..that's what I do when I really like a book. I can already tell I'm gonna like it just from the way you write.

Wendy said...

Wow! You have been busy! I absolutely love the bookmark. I love the red and the white together like that. Really awesome. One of these days I will learn to tat.
Thank you so much for posting on my blog. I kind of wanted to put lilly pads in the pond but I couldn't figure out how to do them.
I love the 6 things list you gave. I drink out of licorice also! That is funny. I never go to the movies though. LOL Nothing against them, I just never have any time. LOL Anyway, thanks again, I love your blog,
Wendy

Hi, Wendy, so glad you dropped by and left a nice comment. Glad you like the bookmark it was a lot of work, the stitching on the pond you did was great! I definately support you in taking advantage of a BFF who can teach you to tat! GO FOR IT!!! I love the movies, but I haven't gone once this year! :(
Hope to see you around, soon!

Thank you Celestina from La Rea Rose. I appreciate the compliment on the bookmark. I just revised it and I'll post it in a couple of days, I'm not done tatting the new design. You'll have to let me know what you think of the twizzler straws...LOL...it's usually redvines at the movies because that's what they sell there. I'm very excited to receive Lauries giveaway. I don't have a message board and that will be just the thing! Come again.

That's a very charming bookmark! This does remind me of a forget-me-not bookmark (blue/purple centre with white surround) somewhere on the net which I wanted to tat, but never get round to doing it cos' it's a lot of work for each motif.

Congrulations! What lucky wins!

Unknown said...

Welcome, Tales from O.C. Cottage. Yes, I think those of us that are hard core P&P fans would be hard pressed to admit how much we have seen that version....or any of them for that matter...LOL

Thank you, Singtatter for both the compliment and the congrats! I find that all the chains in the rosettes tat up rather quickly. But maybe that's just me.
