A Friendly Exchange

I may have mentioned a time or two before that I love tatting exchanges. Recently, I participated in a spontaneous tatting exchange of a different sort.

The typical tatting exchange takes place when one tatter takes another tatter's tittle of tatting in exchange for a tidbit of the other tatter's tatting
(say that 5 times fast!~I think I just made up a new tongue twister, LOL).

Did you get all that??? This exchange was an atypical tatting exchange...I tatted for nontatted items...although they are tatting related.

~*~

Confused?
Let me explain...
I have had the honor of
befriending through blogging a blogging buddy
(see, there I go again with the tongue twisters)
who not only tats,
she paints, carves wood, does woodburning art...
...you name it!
She is one fabulously talented lady.
You may have heard of her;
she is Tattycat
Not only is she talented,
she has been a warmhearted, supportive
friend through emails and blogging.
We decided to exchange some goodies one day.
for these fabulous threadwinders!
What are threadwinders, you ask?
They are what you wind skeins of
HDT (hand dyed thread)
onto so you can tat with it.
She handpainted and/or woodburned them.
Aren't they beautiful?

Here is a darling butterfly and pretty bow that she painted.

Here are some beautiful handpainted and woodburned
daisy threadwinders that she did.

These next ones are beautiful butterflies with
artistically woodburned trees on them.
I call them
"Beau-Tree-Flies"!
They are exquisite!

BONUS!!!
She sent a hanky to sweeten the deal.
I can tat a sweet edging to go around it.

We calculated the time it took for our projects and

exchanged accordingly.

~*~

Thanks for letting me show off my new goodies! They are sweet and sentimental items that I will not only cherish but be able to use with my most favorite hobby of tatting!

If you would like to see Laura's post on our exchange you can click here to read that, but don't forget to leave a comment and let me know what you think about these beautiful threadwinders she sent before you're off to visit her. I'd love to know what you have to say!

Sincerely,
~TattingChic

Those are really neat...but how do you use them...? That "thing" I think is a really old trailer hitch, isn't it great.LOL. Come back and take a look, I just added two more. Laurie

virtualquilter said...

Wow, you certainly have a talented friend there! The but-tree-flies are wonderful.

TattingChic said...

Hi Laurie, the threadwinders hold thread. There are two photos in my post just prior to this one that show a threadwinder with thread wound around it. When you order HDT they come in skeins that need to be unwound and rewound in a ball or on a threadwinder or you get unwanted knots in the thread and it's BAD, real BAD!!!

Welcome, Virtual Quilter! Yes, my friend is talented, thank you for your sweet comment!

That is such a lovely thing to do. Hmmm, you've got me thinking... an exchange of time. I'd love to do something like this at some point.
I think the butterflies are exquisite too, but all her work is gorgeous.

this was a wonderful exchange for both of you! I scuttled across to Laura's blog to look at the snowflakes you sent her, and I think you both have given and received some treasures! The thread winders are great! - and I love the hanky, almost my favourite thing to tat is hanky edges.

Laura is a very talented lady... congratulations on your new thread winders! They are all beautiful! I'm afraid you be a big time loser if we exchanged based on time... I have to be the slowest tatter I've ever met!

What lovely things you have said! Thank you so much. I'm so glad that you like the things I sent you. We both have treasures to keep forever. The pictures are so pretty. I need to start going outside to photograph instead of using this scanner! I think I will take your snowflakes outside today and see if I can do better! Big hugs!

Hi Lady Shuttle Maker! Thanks for your comment and yes, Laura is sweet!

Hi Lace Hearts! Yes, exchanges are fun. I only do them when I know I can be committed time-wise and money-wise (shipping). It sure is worth it when I can do it!

Hi Maureen! Thank you for you kind comment about both our ends of the exchange...personally, I think I got the better end of the deal because Laura's thread winders are so beautiful!

Thank you, Clyde. I'm glad you came to visit.

LOL, Diane, not to worry; your speed will increase with time.

Thank for visiting, Jen R!

Hi Tattycat! Glad you liked the post! Yes, I like natural sunlight the best for tatting pics and stuff like that. A fellow blogger gave me that tip when I started this blog and I've found it works best, too!

That is very cool! I love to crochet with thread, but I never could get the knack of tatting. Something to do with the twist of the wrist? It would be fun to do a crochet for tatting exchange sometime.

TattingChic said...

I'm glad you like the silly tongue twisters, Linda. :) Thanks for visiting.

Hello, Marie Antoinette! I would love to see the hanky you purchased. I'm sure you did fine. I collect vintage hankies with tatted edgings every chance I can get...which isn't to often, but nonethless, every chance I can get.

Yes, Karla, the switch of the threads does take a bit of practise, but it is doable. Thank you for stopping by! :)
