Saturday, November 1, 2008 was a great day for lacers in the Southern California area. It was the 24th Annual Lace Day in L.A.! Let me show you some of the highlights.

As I walked away from her booth I said,
"Thanks, Lily, you're my tatting Angel!"
She said with a wink,
"NO! I'm your tatting enabler!"
Truer words were never spoken.
We had a good laugh at that.

Thanks for going to Lace Day in L.A. with me! I was exhausted after, LOL! How about you? That was another long one, wasn't it! The vendors were fabulous and it was fun. There were drawings and a lecture on the history of lace through the ages. Did you know that back in the 1400's that handmade lace was a form of currency? Gosh, I wish it was now, I'd be RICH! LOL! :)
It was so much fun to see friends from my lace guild and meet new people. I even met a "friend" from eTatters that we have left messages for online about each other's tatting and we met by happenstance at the Lace Show! Hi Nita! ;)
It was a fun day...wish you could've come with me! No, really, I do!

Just found out that in October Mark Meyers was within about an hour and a half drive away giving a class on tatting an angel. I am not expierenced enought yet but it sure would have been nice to at least watch.

Wow, I am exhausted and broke after attending the lace day with you! We really need to do that again :). Everything is so beautiful, I just can't imagine making lace...how can anyone sell their work and how can you put a price on such items? Thanks for sharing such priceless work.

Handmade lace should be a form of currency! What gorgeous things. I would drool all over those beads.
Excellent point, Kathi! That is a subject of many a debate on the online tatting groups. It is something that is very rare, painstakingly slow and and unappreciated by the masses when they can have inexpensive, cheap looking, machine made lace so readily! It's very hard to put a price on it.

Yes, Nancy, that is what these lace guilds are all about...to help preserve and pass on the beautiful art of hand made laces. They are an important part of history.

LOL! Funny you should say that, Kids Napping? I'm Scrapping! The first year I went to the Lace Show it was very overwhelming. It is a very unusual sight to see so many tatting supplies together (live and in person~so to speak). I've learned to go with a plan in mind of what I want to get and I keep a bibliography of tatting books (so many...I forget what I have). ROFLOL, it NEVER works...I get so excited and overwhelmed I STILL overspend....shhhhhhhh!

Hi Karen, I'm so glad that you enjoyed the lace day post. I believe when you say "machine" you mean the roller pillow. It's not a machine at all! It's just a place to set the pins which the lacemaker wraps thread around from her many wooden bobbins hanging down from the lace in progress...HEY! Lace In Progress would be LIP...LOL! I just came up with a new term...Whoo HOOOOOOO!

I had no idea there is such a thing as needle lace.... but from what I see ....it would be something I would love to learn
I also could not imagine walking away from those booths without spending a huge amount of money... even if you dont tat ... the laces themselves are a collectors/sewers dream ....

Hi Jo! Needlelace is actually one of the oldest forms of lace there is! If not THE oldest...from many centuries ago. It is what many machine laces are based on. Glad you enjoyed the photos and yes, your doggie is adorable!

That is so cool that you are a fan of tatting! Tatting is a bit of a challenge to learn at the very first and then once you get the switch of the threads (or the "flip") down then the rest is relatively easy! Really! It's just the same stitch over and over. It's kind of addicting in a way.

Thank you Kathleen Grace, that is huge compliment to be asked if I sell my tatting. At present, I do not. I've been asked that before. The thing is, it's hard to put a price on it because of the amount of time it takes to do it in.

I LOVE lace day events! Thanks for sharing the pics- I just bought one of those large TATSY shuttles at our local lace day event last weekend. Can't wait to try it out!

What a lot of fabulous things to see, and great people to meet. I'm glad you were able to go, and thanks for thinking of me! That is interesting that they had so many beads there - I don't recall there being much in the way of beads at the I.O.L.I. convention in August.
Yarnplayer, they've never had beads like that before. I wish I would've known I would've planned better! I didn't get one bead! Can you believe it?
