Thank You Santa!

Well, Happy New Year to all of you! Many of you have already ushered in the long awaited blue moon of a New Year, but I still have about 2 hours to go! So, with the clock ticking away the minutes I thought I'd share with you some of what that darling Santa Claus brought me!

That Jolly old Elf! He knows that TattingChic sure likes her tatting shuttles and he did not disappoint! Can I show you some of the goodies!?!

~*~

Here are some cute vintage
celluloid shuttles in darling pastels.
How did Santa know I would love these??

~*~

This is something I was so excited to get!
A vintage Milward Shuttle!
How fun is that!?!
~*~

Okay, the special of the day was this
absolutely fabulous antique shuttle
from around the turn of the century...
...no...not the turn of this century...
...the turn of last century!
It's from the early 1900's!

It's a Lydia Pinkham cellulose
acetate advertising shuttle!
Isn't it totally cool!?!
I think so!
These Lydia Pinkham shuttles even
come with an interesting past!
***
Okay, here's the story of
Lydia Pinkham and the Cellulose Acetate Advertising Shuttle Forgery:

To start it all off, I wanted to learn more
about this very unique shuttle!
Upon doing research on "Google" I found this page.
It told me all about the Lydia Pinkham
Cellulose Acetate tatting shuttle.
The page in turn lead me to another page entitled:
Lydia E. Pinkham's
Cellulose Acetate (CA) Shuttle Forgery!
GASP!

It is the tale of a possible eBay forgery found on this page!

Upon closer inspection
I was glad to see that mine
does not look like a forgery;
much to my relief!

Besides...Santa didn't get it on eBay.
***
Special thanks to
Daniel "Tatmeister" Rusch-Fischer
for permission to take screen shots of his pages
and link to his website!

***
Thank you!

Apparently Lydia Pinkham's
40 Proof Alcohol based "Vegetable Compound"
has received her far more reaching notoriety
than she may have had ever intended.
Here's a video of "The Scaffold" from the 1960's singing a song about her.
Thank you WiggyVideos

The lyrics to this song "Lily the Pink"
are based on an old drinking song
called "Lydia Pink"
that orignated in the 1890's!

"We'll drink a, drink a, drink
To Lydia Pink a, Pink a, Pink
The savior of the human ra-hay-hayce
She invented a medicinal compound
Whose effects God can only replace.

Now here's a story,
A little bit gory,
A little bit happy
A little bit sa - hah - had
Bout Lydia Pink and
Her medicinal compound
and how it drove her to the bad.

Lydia died and went up to heaven,
All the church bells they did ri - hing - hing
She took with her Medicinal Compound
Hark! The herald angels sing!

So-oh drink a, drink a, drink
To Lydia Pink a, Pink a, Pink
The savior of the human ra-hay-hayce
She invented a medicinal compound
Whose effects God can only replace."

Drinking song circa 1890s

Thanks to my friend Katherine from
Stitchin' Fingers for pointing out this song to me!

Happy New Year there in beautiful CA. I'm watching the Rose Parade (my cousin and I use to go camp out)

I had to go take a look at my Lydia and "whew' mine is real also...wouldn't that have been a bummer if it had been a knock off? eweee

Ironically I did not get ONE gift for Christmas...really!
I must have made Santa's 'Schmidt' list. LOL
First time in all my life I didn't receive ONE gift.
EXCEPT the day AFTER , Aileen's tiny angel arrived.

Yes, Lori, that Santa is amazing isn't he? Glad you like the Lydia Pinkham shuttle that is my favorite, too! Thanks for the new year wishes, too!

Thanks, Diane! I'm glad you like the "new" shuttles! They are fun!

Isn't that wierd, Old Jail Artist? I never would've thought that someone would try to do that...it's not very nice.

Yes, Tatskool, you don't see the Lydia Pinkham ones show up that often. When they do though, it sure seems like they all pop up! LOL! Glad you are enjoying nice weather there in Ireland today! What a lovely way to start out the New Year!

Hi Bonnie! Gosh, I always try to be on Santa's good girl list, but sometimes the shuttles are in greater numbers than others.

Hi Snap! Yes, Santa was very good to me, wasn't he?

Hi there, Steph! Thanks for visiting. You know I have seen that hook that comes with the Milward and I have to say it make me chuckle, it does! So, no, I didn't get the hook, but I think I'll be okay if I never have that Milward "hook"! LOL! Thank you for the New Year wishes!

Thanks for the visit and the lovely wishes, Heather!

Thank you, Mama.tejedora! I'm glad you like the shuttles and thanks for the lovely wishes.

Hi Katie! I appreciate your comment. Sometimes when I include all this other information I wonder if it is going to bore everyone to death or if at least one person will find it interesting!

Hi Ridgetatter! Thanks for visiting! I hope you are enjoying the Rose Parade! They sure come up with some lovely floats, don't they! Amazing! Glad to hear your Lydia Pinkham Shuttle is a real one, too! I know, my heart skipped a beat when I saw the article at first. I'm sure yours did, too!!

Hi Karen! Thank you! Aren't shuttles fascinating! I've just always loved them! They're so fun to collect...it's like a little treasure hunt looking for them!

Happy New Year Tatting Chic!
You got some really neat shuttles from Santa! I think the celluloid shuttles look like the couple I have from my grandmother. Love the Lydia Pinkham shuttle! Not many shuttles have history, controversy AND their own drinking song!

It was so lovely of you to visit and leaving such kind words. No, it was no intrusion for you to see what I posted, I did it for anyone who comes to visit. Fascinating post and great gifts. It just seems miraculous to me what you've made by hand, so intricate. I also enjoyed your post about the little fellow who came all the way from Ireland, bless his little itty bitty heart. I have been thinking about Ireland for months and may considering going there this year. Come visit again! Lori

The shuttles are nice and there was a pink connection somewhere. I wish you a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year 2010.

Hi Sheila! You are so kind to put up with my shuttle stories! I'm glad you like them! Thanks for visiting!

Thanks, Lili M! Here's hoping the year Tenty-Ten is happy and healthy for you and your family as well!

Hi Victoria! Happy New Year to you, too!

Hi Laurie Anna! Thank you, I am glad you love the shuttles! I'm sure if they were not inanimate objects incapable of feeling they would be pleased to hear that! So, I'll just be pleased for them! LOL! Thank you for your kind holiday wishes, too!

Well, Fox, didn't you hear??? Lydia Pink a pink a pink took it to heaven with her! Thanks for stopping by with your fabbo comment! LOL!

Hi Kim! Thanks for sharing that! I am so glad to make you smile! Sometimes the smiling making is on purpose and sometimes it just falls into place like this time it was quite by accident that I came across the 1890's drinking song and the 1960's video...all that had some connection to do with the advertisement on that shuttle! It was so funny to me! Happy New Year to you, too!

Hi Ann! I'll bet your celluloid shuttles from your grandmother are a treasure! Have you shared them on your blog yet, I wonder? Did I miss it? I hope not! Knowing me you probably posted them already and I already wrote a comment and I just can't remember! LOL! You've got a good point there with that Advertisement on that shuttle! LOL! Interestingly enough, the shuttle was only one of very many avenues in which Lydia maneuvered her marketing "skills". She put her face and logo on just about anything she could at that time and made herself a whole lotta money!

Hi Lori! Thank you for visiting and for your kind words in return! I did enjoy reading about your parents' anniversary! That really was touching to read!
Oh, and I read here that you met my little leprechaun from Ireland! It would be a lovely place to visit, wouldn't it? Well, you come back and visit anytime, ya hear? Visitors are welcome here!

Thanks, Tattips! You know what I did not even realize that there was a "PINK" connection! LOL! Very clever of you to notice that! Hey!!! That makes it even more special! LOL! Thanks for visiting!

Oh WOW WOW WOW! A girl can never have enough shuttles. Especially ANTIQUE shuttles! My goodness, you can open up your own Tatting Museum by now. Oh, Santa. Mrs. Claus is one lucky woman, eh?

This was such a fun post. I enjoyed that song. Hahahaha!

Happy New Year to you, m'dear!

I just got round to playing the video, gosh that takes me back. I was a student in the 60's and that song was EVERYWHERE in college.

Fabulous shuttles, thanks for showing them to us. I've had my own Milwards for many many years and then found another one earlier this year for just £1 in a charity shop! But your antique one is the best. The shuttle making is continuing here and Jane and I are testing them.

Happy New Year. I love your tatting, especially the tree top angel, so delicate.

Hope you had a super new year. I love your 'new' christmas presents. Funny how Santa always knows what we like. I had one of those Milward shuttles while I was in Australia 31 years ago. I think it went the way of missing things.lol. Hope this year brings good health and plenty of sunshine in California!

I love the shuttles. I have one of the Lydia Pinkham shuttles. Got it a couple of year ago. Enjoy your new shuttles. Have a great 2010.

Hi Vinnie, Happy New Year!

Thank you, Anita! Oh, what a pleasure to be able to share with you a bit of tatting history you had not seen from your very talented tatting mother! It is always a pleasure to have you visit as well! You come again as well!

Thank you, Bella Sinclair! So funny! I know you are joking about a Tatting Museum, but sometimes I've wondered if it would be possible...or even if it would have visitors! I would like to do that someday! LOL! I'm glad you liked the song, it's a catchy tune, aye? LOL!

LOL! Tatskool, I sure hope it brings back pleasant memories for you! What a comedic trio they were!

Gosh, I wish I could say mine only cost £1!!! My Milward had to come all the way from Australia! For some reason, Santa wouldn't bring it over in his sleigh so I had to pay the shipping costs! I bit more than £1 I'd say! LOL! I'll bet your Milwards are in much better shape, too! Mine looks like a cat barfed on it! LOL! Oh, that's exciting news about the test tatting going on with Jane! Lucky Jane!

Thank you, Ann! I'm glad you like the tatting! Oh, thank you for saying such kind words about the Tree Top Angel. She is my masterpiece!

Hi Shay! Thanks! I'm glad the antique one wasn't a fake either!

Thank you, TAT19540! I did have a lovely Christmas and a pleasant New Year's Eve, thank you! Hey, the Milward Santa gave me was from Australia!

Oh, Sharon D! That is cool that you have one of the Lydia Pinkham tatting shuttles! They sure don't come around very often! That's for sure! Interesting stuff about her, aye?

Thank you for such lovely New Year's Wishes, Carolyn! May all your New Year's wishes come true, too! Thanks for the nice words about the shuttles. Thanks also for your friendship this past year! I look forward to another year of your bloggy friendship!
