A Weekend With Hyacinth

It's been a lovely weekend! I've been spending it with Hyacinth Bucket (that's "boo-kay", yes, I know it's spelled "b-u-c-k-e-t", but it's "BOO-KAY"!). I just love her Royal Doultan with the handpainted periwinkles and her candlelight suppers! I rather like to think she might like my hand tatted lace doilies with the hand dyed silk threads and special designs! They'd look perfect with her fine bone china!

Here's a taste of Mrs. Bucket
from the very first part of the
first episode aired. It's the first
of 4 parts of the first episode.
If you want to see the
rest of that particular episode
feel free to click on over to
YouTube and see the rest of them!

I've been catching up on this fun
British Comedy all weekend!

❀✿❀

If this doesn't sounds like I've had an
exciting enough weekend to you, then
I do have some exciting news to share with you!

❀✿❀

Thank you to my "Tatting Sister" for the
secret prize that I don't know what it is
because it's a SECRET and
congrats to my "Tatting Mumsy" for winning
the beadspinner that I really wanted
(but I'm sure I'll be thrilled with my "secret prize")!

If you'd like a chance to win something she is still
having a giveaway each Monday! Be sure to comment
on the actual giveaway post each Monday and
click on the image below for the rules!

I rather like to think it's the kind of
giveaway that Hyacinth might approve of.
Ha ha!
(actually I think I'd go bonkers if she were my neighbor)

I am really excited about that giveaway win! I was so hoping I would win one of Lady ShuttleMaker's giveaways! Speaking of ladies, my favorite Royal Doultan fine bone china pattern is Lady Carlyle! It's PINK and it's on sale! Oh, Santaaaaaaaaaa! I've been a very good girl this year!

What is on your Christmas wish list? Do you have a favorite China pattern! Have you entered Lady Shuttlemaker's giveaway yet? Do go over on Monday and enter!

I am so glad you stopped by to visit! I'd offer you coffee or tea with biscuits, but then you'd have to mind the crumbs! ( a little "hyacinthian" humor)

As they say in Merry Old England,

Cheerio!

XOXO

Congratulations, Chica, on winning a secret prize in Lady ShuttleMaker's Mondo Monday giveaway! As a previous secret prize winner, I feel confident that you will be thrilled with your secret prize once it arrives!

I've never watched Hyacinth, but now you've got me quite curious! Must go looking for her on YouTube.

Congrats again, you lucky lady!

Congratulations Sweetie!! Lady Shuttlemaker is just awesome!! Have a great week!!

Hello! Is this the lady of the house blogging?

I would LOVE to be invited to one of your candlelight suppers and see your table set with fabulous tatting and your Lady Carlyle Royal Doultan! Of course I wouldn't mind sitting next to Elizabeth and sipping out of a beaker - that may be safest for me!

Congratulations on your prize! Will you be taking a page from Hyacinth's book (which I have) and putting out the cones and the "Delivery Imminent" sign for its arrival or just stalking the poor mailman? :)

Enjoy the Bucket woman - she's one of my favorites and tomorrow on your way to work "watch the bicyclist."

:) Ann

Hi Fox, thank you! Yes, I think "that Bucket woman" drives everyone up the wall, LOL! I think the actress playing her does a fabulous job!

Hi Snap! Yes, I won again! I can't believe it, but I'm very happy about it! It HAS been a delightful weekend, thanks!

Hi Isdihara! Oh, well, it's good to know from an experience secret prize winner that I am in for a treat! Thank you!
Yes, go and watch Hyacinth! She'll tickle your funny bone and drive ya crazy all at the same time! I ♥ British humor!

Thank you, Carol! Lady ShuttleMaker IS awesome, I agree! I thought so before I won her giveaway and think even more so since I've won, LOL!

Thank you, Ann! Yes, do come to my candlelight supper at EXACTLY 7:25 and do leave your shoes at the door, will you?
Not only will I "watch the bicyclist", but I will "mind the pothole" whilst driving tomorrow! LOL! ;)

Hahah, sounds like you´ve had a great weekend!! Not that I´m much in to British humor, but this Mrs Bucket is just fabulous lol :))

And congrats on winning, too!! Well, I need to cut it short now, my sister just called me, "not the one with the Mercedes, sauna and room for a pony." =))

Have a nice week (^.^)

Hi TattingChic,

Hyacinth and her candlelight dinners and ... then poor old Richard!
That is a great show and always such a laugh.
We named our little grey Persian Hyacinth, after her.
Congratulations on your win!

Happy week

That's one of our favorite shows! We can't have a picnic next to a creek without saying in an overly British accent that we're having some "riparian entertainment" :)

Oh my you are the luckiest girl ever!
I think I should have you buy me a lottery ticket!

HAHAHAHA! Why am I not surprised at your win? You are truly blessed, my friend. Lots of great things landing on your doorstep as of late. I'm just wild about that adorable pink hummingbird below, too.

In some ways Hyacinth reminds me of my M-in-law!!! Always putting on airs and graces! Thankfully we are not all like her or her extended family!
Congratulations on your win and have a good week

Tatskool said...

Congrats Chic, another win under your belt..ok you deserve it!
Very interesting that you like the British sense of humour as not every American does! and lots of other nationalities don't either. it's always funny when we play our favourites to visitors...like Wallace and Gromit and their faces are completely deadpan!!...not that I personally watch Hyacinth!!!! What does that say about my sense of humour!

Old Jail Artist said...

I LOVE that series, and it's not on our PBS station anymore. I never laughed as hard as I did at the episode where she and her husband bought a place "in the country." The ceilings were so low his head went straight through and he got stuck.

Karen The Graphics Fairy said...

Congratulations on your prize!! That is exiting news!
I do love that show too, I haven't watched it in a long time, thanks for reminding me how funny it is. British comedies are my favorite, I just love their humor!

Heather said...

Hi Tatting Chic... congratulations on your win... can't wait to see what you get! Hyacinth is way too funny, I used to watch the show on PBS (I think?) but it has been a while. Thanks for visiting my blog recently... don't have anything to post yet as I'm working on Christmas pressies, so can't show them... yet. Hugs.

Hi Carolina! I wouldn't say I'm "that" into British Humor, but I do love our Hyacinth and Wallace and Grommit! Yes, I must be running along, too! The phone is ringing and it's probably someone VERY IMPORTANT!

Hi Nancy! Yes, I think we all would move, LOL! It's a cute series!

Oh, DEAR! Judy, we'll have to get you a plastic "tippy" cup! Did you see that episode?

Hi Carolyn! That sounds like a lovely name of your grey persian! I'll bet she's lovely!

Oh, yes, Grizzly Mountain Arts! The one with the "riperian entertainments" was hilarious!

Hi Paperbird, thank you! I do hope my luck continues through the holidays!

Hi Bella Sinclair! Thanks for stopping by. Yes, I am blessed and I'm grateful for all my wins! Thank you!

Aw, Marilyn, not even Poor Richard? I rather like him? Although he did start to grow bitter toward season 5, but who can blame him?

Hi Carla! For someone with no words you came up with 11 of them! Good job!!!

Ugh, Sally! I can imagine many people can see their MIL's in Hyacinth, LOL! I suppose there is a little Hyacinth in all of us. I guess it's a matter of recognizing it and suppressing it somewhat, LOL!

Hi Tatskool! I do love me some British humor! I ♥ Wallace & Grommit! So cute! Sometimes I can sit and watch something deadpan and still be laughing on the inside, really!

Oh, yes, Old Jail Artist! Poor Emmet's head got stuck up there with the sharp thing in his neck and they had to cut him out of there!

Hi Karen! I am glad to remind you of this delightful show! Sometimes I enjoy British humor more, it just depends on my mood, LOL!

Hi Heather! Thank you, and I can't wait to see what I get, too! I haven't seen Keeping Up Appearances for a while, so it was refreshing to see it on YouTube!

Hi Tracy! Yes that Bucket woman is funny, LOL! (((Hugs))) back to you!

Oh, Victoria, I couldn't agree more! I am glad you stopped by!

Hi There,

Congrats on your win. I have never seen anyone win as often as you. You must be a win magnet!

I love Hyacinth. Poor Richard. The kids would watch it with me when they were much younger. They were very thankful, I wasn't like Hyacinth. Have you ever watched "Are you being served"?

My son is back home is semi assisted living btw. They check in several times a day.

hugs,
Barb

The weird thing is that I have recently been watching this series (for the third or fourth time). I let it play in the back ground while I work so that I can chuckle a lot. My favorite episode is "Driving Mrs. Fortesque" in season two. It makes me laugh so hard I cry...no matter how many times I've seen it!

Congrats again!

Hi Barb! A "win magnet", LOL! That is cute! I like that.
Yes, I have seen "Are You Being Served"! It is a cute show, I seem to like "Keeping Up Appearances" better for some reason. Maybe I should give "Are You Being Served" a second chance!
Well, I am glad your son is out of the hospital and back home again.

Thank you, Ninu!

Oh, Yes! Lady ShuttleMaker! Driving Mrs. Fortesque is hilarious! She is all pretentious about driving her into town and tries to keep her away from her "low class" family, but in the end her low class family and Mrs. Fortesque get along famously! It's so funny when she gets stuck in the back of that truck and they stop right in front of the snobby ladies Hyacinth was trying to avoid, LOL! Oh, that was a good one!

Hello, Vanessa of A Fanciful Twist! It's so nice to have you stop by. I'm glad you loved the clip. It would be okay if you didn't, too. I just wanted to share. :)

YarnJourney! I would ♥ to watch "Keeping Up Appearances" with you whilst we did our work, LOL! It would be fun to tat and watch that while you did your knitting or one of your many various talents!

Hi Constance, I am surprised you haven't heard of this series, because (as you say) it does seem right up your alley! I do hope you enjoy it and if you enjoy some tea and biscuits whilst watching it DO MIND THE CRUMBS! LOL! ;)

Hello to A Happy Bluebird. Thank you on the Congrats. I hope you enjoy the show! It's cute.

Hi Lili! Isn't Mrs. Bucket funny?! They are all hilarious, I agree.

Hi Rayanna! Thanks for stopping by! I love the Buckets as well.

Hey, I was wondering, is the Time Travelers Wife, better in book form then the movie? I heard the movie was a really big disappointment.
I was thinking about reading and saw it on your list.

Hope your having a great week!

Hi Tatt Chic, It sounds like you are having fun with the episodes and catching up over the weekend. I am not familiar with it, but now you have me interested to find out.
Congrats on your win again. You are very lucky and so deserving of your wins too

Hope you are having a good week. I am so busy on this end, but having fun too. Went to see Ameila last Friday night. It was good. I like movies about real people.
See you soon.

I just LOVE Hyacinth. Yet another thing we have in common! If only I didn't have all thumbs and could never be a tatting queen, we could be sisters. :)

Congratulations on winning a secret prize from Sherry. If you didn't order a hook pen, maybe that will be your surprise. Whatever it is I'm sure it will be great and suit you perfectly.

I love Hyacinth! I've been told that I resemble Hyacinth (not in looks but in the way I entertain:). I don't know that I have a favorite china pattern as there are so many that I like-especially the Royal Crown Derby and anything by Haviland.

Blessings,

Kim

oh my gosh i think you should buy a lotto ticket!

LOL about Hyacinth, I love Keeping Up Appearances. We used to watch it every week, years ago, and sat there in hysterics! Remember the poor neighbour who couldn't get away from her, I can't remember his name... Elizabeth's brother? Oh and that poor poor husband of hers!

Unknown said...

Wow!!! congrats on your win...I never heard of Hyacinth...I will check her out!!! have a great day!

Unknown said...

Hi Mandy! Yes, Hyacinth Bucket is trying to be something she isn't, isn't she? That IS what makes the show so funny. Thank you for visiting and leaving such a nice comment!

Hi Cheryl! Good to have you back in blogland! Hope all is well with you! Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Donna Lynn! Thanks for visiting. It is nice to get something fun in the mail! I hope you got my comment on your blog with my answer to your query!

Hello, Cel Mar! I think I have watched every single episode by now, LOL! I could've kept going, but alas, it only aired for 5 seasons!

Yup Kim, Mrs. Bucket, er, "BOOKAY"! would've made a lovely Halloween character, LOL!

Hello Rebecca Ramsey! We do have a lot in common, aye? I think that is cool. I very few kindred spirits in my life who tat (in fact the sister that I DO have who tats is not at all close in ANY way to me) so that certainly is not requisite for being sisters!

Hi Kathy! I know! I know! I want a hook pen so bad! I hope that is what it is! I will be very happy with whatever it is so we shall see! I will be sure to share it when I get it!

Hello there, ThimbleAnna! Very happy to remind you of Hyacinth! She's so funny!

Hi Anke! I am glad you visited. Thank you for accepting my friendship invitation on InTatters. Speaking of which, I know you did by now learn how to PM and I hope you have gotten my response! (Hugs) to you!

Hi Constance! Ha ha! No, I didn't tat my costume. Did you take pictures of your costume!?!

Hello Lonewolf, er Victoria, er, Lonewolf. I hope you put your blog link on your profile so that others can see your cool clothing designs! You are very talented!

Hi Susanne! Very glad you stopped by! Oh, my! That Onslow is a sight to behold, isn't he?

Hi Kim! I would love to come to one of your "Candlelight Suppers", then! I am one of those people that dreams of being a fabulous hostess who entertains with flair. I love place cards and collect place card holders and napkin rings, etc... LOL! Alas, it is only a dream, though! Unlike Hyacinth, I truly want to put people at ease around me. I don't like pretentiousness, but I'm afraid there's a little bit of Hyacinth in ALL of us, LOL! That's what makes her character so funny.

Hi Natasha! Isn't that funny that I keep winning! It's alright by me, though. Oh, yes, and poor Emmet! He couldn't ever hide quickly enough, could he?

Hi Diana! Thank you for the congrats. If you do check out Hyacinth I hope you enjoy her silly antics. She can be a bit irritating, but she is quite funny!

The Sweetbrier Cottage said...

I saw your comment on the VictorianParlor and yes, I know for a fact that Kim does entertain like Hyacinth, in fact I'm probably the one that made the comment. In Kim's defense, however, she does not make people nervous when she entertains and people love to go to her teas. She is a most gracious and elegant hostess!

PS One of my favorite chinas (my pattern) is the Haviland Montmery-Forget Me Nots. I like most china patterns which have character.

Unknown said...

Hello to the SweetBrier Cottage. Thank you for stopping by and saying hello. I do not see the need to defend Kim at all! She doesn't strike me at all like the kind of person that would make others uncomfortable in her home. In fact, I even think I said so on her blog! I would be honored to be invited to one of her dining occasions.

Bella Sinclair said...

Hey, sweetums. I have a few awards for you. No pressure, no obligation. Just my appreciation for you. :)

Oh my gosh! I love that show! I just had to explain the "bucket" "bookay" thing to a girl at work who was cracking up after speaking with a customer whose name was Jacques (we assumed the French pronunciation) who was very adamant that her name should be pronounced "jack-wezz"!!!! I need to rent that so I can hear her talk about her Royal Doulton with that hand painted periwinkles!
