Spreading the LOVE for UFO's and WIP's! ;)

Sounds like someone is wanting for zyprexa and xanax, doesn't it? ROFLOL! I'm not sure the ROFLOL part helps me plead my case for the fact that I haven't gone COMPLETELY bonkers, just a little bonkers.

Perhaps a look at the crafting and blogging glossary will be of some help for you (and me, LOL!)

ROFLOL = Rolling On the Floor Laughing Out Loud
We all knew that, right?
UFO = UnFinished Object
WIP = Work In Progress
which leads us to
my own acronym
LIP = Lace In Progress

Okay, back to business... AHEM... (clearing throat as this is going to get serious, folks) With the arrival of the new year being thrust upon us whether we wanted it or not, whether we were banging the doors down for it to get here, or not; it is here. There is something about the arrival of a new year that causes us to reflect upon...

...wh...what's that?...
Who was making the comments from the peanut gallery?
...was that YOU!?!...

....oh, sorry... Is that TOO serious for you? Do you want me to just say it without getting all flowery on you? Okay, so don't ya just love the feeling of a clean slate? You know, like a chance to get it right this time. Or perhaps the new year causes you to reflect on the unfinished...like the pile of UFO's (we all know what UFO means in this instance, right?) floating around in your craft box, corner, closet, or (for those of you fortunate enough to have one) ROOM! The funny thing about UFO's is that if left unattended long enough; they really do turn into some sort of UFO (Unidentifiable Floating Object)! Let me share with you some of mine. Mind you, it's only some of them. It's mostly tatting. Although there is some knitted poncho still waiting for me to get the fringe installed on it. Remember when ponchos were really "IN" a few years ago? At least they were here in So. Cal. Yeah, but that's a WHOLE 'NOTHER BLOG POST, folks! ;)

~*~

Here are the
Tatting UFO's!!!

Make way for the
Tatting UFO's!!!

UFO #1 A glove design I had been working on 12-15 yrs ago until
I saw some italian magazine came out with
THE SAME GLOVE DESIGN!!!
What IS UP with that, folks???

UFO #2 Some doily thingy I was working on.
Don't even ask me the thread size or the
pattern because I just don't know, LOL!

Here's a close-up of the LIP.

UFO #3
Can you tell I abhor finishing ends??
Am I alone in this, LOL!
;)

UFO #4
A future pin cushion cover.

UFO #5
A future fan ornament...no, really, it is!

UFO #6
These are going to be coasters...

...that will one day look like this,
only all in ecru thread (monochromatic).

UFO #7
A future mat.
BWAH-ha-HA-ha-ha-ha!!!
I know, I know,
Isn't it funny?
I've got a ways to go.
That's probably why it's still only 2 squares.

UFO #8
A Victorian era edging pattern that I was trying to make
evolve into a snowflake.

UFO #9
This is going to be attached to a
linen "round".
Only I'm going to have to MAKE the
"round" because it's not very
user friendly with the pre-made
"rounds" available today.
***
Here's a close-up of the edging.
It has needle-lace that I sewed
into the centers of the medallions.
See?

UFO #10 This one was started in the current millenium because
I've got my "magic thread" already tatted
inside of the double stitches.
I only learned magic thread in the last 5-6 yrs.
See, the magic thread near the top of the doily?
It's in rose-pink colored thread for contrast
with the working threads.

UFO #'s 11, 12, & 13
Some experiments with 3-shuttle tatting.
These are over 15 years old.
These eventually evolved into FO's (finished objects).
I'll show you that FO later!

UFO #'s 14, 15, 16, & 17
These insertions were my fabulous
brainstorm for choker-style necklaces
a few years ago.
They are still waiting for their thread ends
to be taken care of and their clasps to be attached.
***
And then there's THIS ONE.
I'm not EVEN going to show a photo of it
because it has stalled. It is at the exact same spot
of progression. And didn't I say I'd have it done by
Christmas? Well, I think I meant next Christmas, LOL!

~*~

And now for the award.

No, this is NOT an award for
having the MOST UFO's!

Although, I would be
a close runner-up to be sure.
Some of you could have me beat
by a long shot, couldn't you?

This is an actual blogging award.

gave me this fabulous
Spreader of Love Award!
Thank you Laurie,

I want to share it with just a few people
that have been loving bloggy pals.

Just a few, mind you,
because I couldn't
possibly list ALL of you!

1) Laura from Laura's Tatting Muse

3) Kathy from Kathy's Crazy Moments

Gosh, I want to list every single person who has made my day a little brighter and I don't think blogger would even have the capacity list all of you. I have loved each and every giveaway, comment, award, exchange, tatting supply purchase~!!!

Goodness, thank you ALL~! I LOVE ALL OF YOU!

I seriously couldn't have made it through 2008 without YOU!!!

~*~

Thank you for stopping to see what all the fuss was about. I appreciate any help or advice you'd like to leave me...LOL! Just kidding, cuz NOBODY really wants advice do they? Even when they ask for it they REALLY don't want it. Okay, maybe sometimes they do. In case it wasn't clear, that was a joke about the advice. However, if you would like to leave a comment, feel free~ Perhaps we could turn this into a UFO-aholics Anonymous support group. A "UFOA", if you will. So any comments of support and encouragement are, well, ENCOURAGED! Enjoy working on whatever UFO's you may have. If you have none, what are you doing with them; throwing them away??? LOL! Oh, you're one of those remarkably organized peeps who gets EVERYTHING done? Oh, yeah, people like that don't exist, LOL! Unless you are Martha Stewart, in which case, we all know that Martha Stewart has teams of peeps working for her, right? Hopefully there is no one engaging themselves in the delusion that Martha Stewart is perfect and gets it ALL done. God bless her, but she sure is pretty dang ambitious, though! Isn't she? How did I get off writing about Martha Stewart, now? I love you, Martha! Okay, I don't LOVE you, that would be kinda wierd/awkward, but I do admire your work!

Now, I'm talking to Martha Stewart and she isn't even HERE!!! On second thought, maybe I do need that Zyprexa!

Oh, nonetheless, your comments are welcomed and each and everyone of them are read and enjoyed! Hope to see you all again soon in the blogosphere...if we haven't lost our minds with all those UFO sightings!!!

Love,
TattingChic
xoxo

Ha! Wish my UFO's looked that good! sigh...I have ONE fingerless glove that I made for a tatting contest and now that it's long over, I have no interest in making its mate. What do you do with ONE glove? It looks nothing like yours so we can't even put them together and pretend its a pair!

Pat said...

I promise I won't say a word about how many UFO's you have....I have many myself. But, I did want to say that your black tatted "chokers" would be beautiful on a crazy quilt!!! Since you commented on my blog today saying you'd like to make one...you have gorgeous embellishments there right in front of you! When you do make one....let me see! Thanks for the comment today! Well, I showed my UFO's in my post, didn't I! LOL. Except the tapestry panels aren't exactly my UFO's, they're somebody else's UFO's, and she has got rid of her problem by passing it my way!!! And I still haven't a clue how to finish them.
All yours looks so scrummy. I would love to see the glove finished - or is it just one, and you then have another to do (though I'm assuming here you have both hands). I think it is stunning. Happy New Year to you, Tatting Chic.

Unknown said...

Hi Gina! We would have a pair of gloves fit for a person with very sadly deformed hands, LOL! I wanted to make the glove until I saw it in those Chicchiarino magazines or whatever and I was, like, "WHAT!?!". Arggghhhh! This is not the first time my design got published first by someone else, LOL! I'm going to have to get faster at it, LOL!

Hi Pat! You know, I could just change to the title of the post to "Why I want to start Crazy Quilting" Or "Why every tatter should have Crazy Quilting as a second hobby!" LOL! What do you think?

Thank you, Rue. I appreciate your sweet comment. I'm so glad to make you smile!

Yes, Lace Hearts, as a matter of fact I DO have both hands! LOL! Looks like with all of our UFO's we have plenty to keep us busy throughout the wonderful new year aahead and neither one of us should have to buy anymore craft stash, right? BWah-Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha!!! That's a good one, huh?

My, you do have a lot of UFOs! I can't say too much, though... I have quite a few myself, though not so much in tatting. I know my daughter would love for me to finish her graduation quilt... she graduated in 1994! I wonder where I put that quilt?

Hi Kathleen Grace. Will I get them all done? I dunno! I sure am going to start...someday...

Thanks Bebe! I'm glad my posts make you giggle! That's the point! That and to share about my fave hobby.

Thank you so much, Angie! I'm so glad you shared that with me. It means a lot.

Hi Tattycat. Thanks a bunch for your very sweet comment! I really appreciate it.

Thank you, Judi! You are so sweet. I hope you do learn! Someone just told me that there is a new book on the market called "Learn to Tat" by Janette Baker. It has an interactive DVD with it that shows how to do the Double Stitch step by step. Someone told me that this one really helped her and she got it for around $15. You can find it at handy hands tatting! I wish you the very best of luck!

LOL! Nerm, you are hilarious~ Where on EARTH did you get that I was being hard on myself? LOL! These are jokes, tongue in cheek kind of blog posts! Please don't take it so seriously! Glad you like the heart! Hope you are having a fabulous new year and thanks for visiting!

Hi Carolyn! Yes, working on the WIPs will be like a version of "stash-busting". I'll be using up what I have around me instead of buying more tatting stuff...maybe, LOL! Good luck with your WIPs, too!

LOL! I guess so, Darly. Hey, is this the same Darly that we all know and love??? Where have you been??? You've been missed in bloggerland. I guess if you haven't been around then I guess it means you have a REAL life that you've been living, LOL!

Oh my gosh, I need a zyprexa! I'm ROFLOLCMS (that's rolling on the floor, laughing out loud, clutching my sides). I think you should just relabel some of these UFOs and call them finished works, they're so good.

My UFOs don't even get to the UFO stage. I usually clip out a craft idea, then rush out to buy all the supplies. And then the supplies just sit, untouched, forever.

Look how SWEET you are!!! YOU are the queen of Spreading the Love. Wow, I'm so touched to receive this from you. Thank you!!!

Hillside Threads said...

Wow! Such wonderful UFO's you really must finish them. Most of my UFO's are mostly non tatting related. I have made a deal with myself to finish them or get rid of them by the end of the year (although I will probably change my mind about that at the end of the year). I find having too many UFOs limits my creativity, although it doesn't seemed to have stifled yours LOL! Thank you for your show and tell have a great day.

What would life be without Zyprexa, Xanax and UFOs. I love your blog it is always entertaining and a must read. As far as the UFOs are concerned for me I just put them away and forget about them because they are not important if they were I would like them and would want to finish them. I consider them objects that somebody else will come up with a use for in the future then I don't worry about them any more.

Those are all gorgeous UFO's!
The black edgings would make wonderful, high-fashion chokers. I wouldn't know what type of clasp you'd need for those, maybe one of those multi-strand ones.

AnneB said...

As the knowledge of Science progresses we have come to learn that

UFO = WI(very slow)P

and if the UFO is showing a lack of P, it is usually due to UPPs, MFPs and NTBDNPs (UnPredicted Projects, More Fun Projects and Need To Be Done Now Projects). UPPs and MFPs are sometimes known to evolve to UFOs as well, and thus adding to a steadily increasing number of UFOs. But then UFOs sometimes evolve to FOs.

Happy New Year to you too and enjoy your attack on your pile UFOs! They'll make lovely FOs!

Hi Maryjane! Thanks for visiting. I'm glad you like the UFO's!

You like hearts, Linda? Me too! I love 'em! Tatting snowflakes and hearts are 2 of my fave things to tat!

LOL! Oh, Yes, Bella Sinclair! I can soooo relate to what you are saying about the buying the supplies and then, there they sit! LOL! It's sad, but what is sadder is finally finding the time or the motivation to do the craft again and the stuff has gone bad or expired, LOL! But we won't even go there, will we!?

Hi JaneB! I think I'd really like to learn CQ!! That way I have somewhere to put my UFO's so they turn into FO's! LOL!

Hi Kathy, Thank you!

Thank you, Tam! Glad you stopped by.

LOL! Thanks, Jon! I shall do my best to make some of it happen this year. We'll see. No promises, LOL! Thanks for the New Year's wishes again! LOL!

I know what you mean, Clyde! I'm very good at forgetting about them! They scrunch up so small that it is easy to not remember their existence all tucked away in a box somewhere! That is why some of my UFO's are soooo old!

Thank you, Lime. Glad you like the tatting and I hope you visit again!

Thank you, Mary Ellen. Oh, that would be too cool for you to relearn to tat! I would encourage it any way possible!

Hi Viki! Thanks for stopping by. I'll bet your UFO's are gorgeous! You sure make some beautiful thing over there!

LOL! Suzie, you crack me up, girl!

Thanks, Sarah! Glad to bring a smile to your face! So glad you came on over for a visit!

Thank you so much, Vintage Girl at Heart! I always enjoy your visits.

Yup, Yarnplayer! The multistrand flat clasp was exactly what I had in mind for the clasp! Good thinking! I wanted to either put a ribbon behind it or leave them plain and hang a cameo style charm of put a cameo style charm in the middle/front area!

Oh, Anne! THat comment is great! I love it! It deserves a post of it's own! You have a delightful wit! Thanks for sharing that! LOL!

Hi Donna! I sooooo know what you mean, LOL! I love your blog, BTW!

LOL, thank you, Penny! Oh, just take it slow with the knitting, you know, like a scarf with those HUGE size 16 knitting needles and the fun novelty yarns and you'll knit up something stylish and cute in no time flat! That way there will be no UFO's! You are very organized, BTW! I think I need to break into CQ-ing so that I can make productive use of some of these UFO's!!!

Oh, Amy! Thank you! No, I do not have a shope, but I always feel so flattered when someone asks me that!

You are so funny! Thanks for the laugh! I have a few of those UFOs around here, but you know what??? Last year when I did major cleaning I gave my self permission to throw a bunch of them out. There is no need to hold on to things that make us feel guilt right?

Well, Sharon, there is no sense in hanging onto something that is holding you back! The thing is I don't think I can just "toss out" hand made lace, LOL! Nope, that ain't gonna happen. Now, if it's a MISTAKE that's a whole 'nother matter and into the "round file" it goes!

Thank you, Twyla. Good luck with your own UFO's. That sounds like a great resolution to me. Thanks so much for your very sweet comment.

LOL! See you are beginning to see the "vision"! Scrappin' and tattin'! Now just picture some pretty tear drop beads hanging from those choker necklaces and added to just the RIGHT scrapbook page! It's a match made in heaven!

Hi Bill! Thanks for the comment! I'll let Gina know you were calling on her here. Does Nancy know you and Gina meet on my blog and exchange secret messages sometimes??? ;)

Hi Tracy! I think you've got something there with the WIP philosophy! I like that take on it!

Ah, Victoria, I'm not sure what duty free means...something to do with taxes? But whatever costs less! Speaking of taxes...maybe that is what I will use some of my tax return on...my skin is really wanting for a good facial and skin routine right now!

Good one, Mike! I guess I had it coming; revealing all my UFO's and all! I'm still kinda mad about the glove thing...see I seriously have had it in mind for over 20 years and then started on it over 12-15 years ago and then I saw the EXACT same design...so what's the point of finishing the design...? I don't want some stupid Italian magazine accusing me of stealing their design when I HAD IT FIRST! LOL! :)

Hi Twyla...again! I'm glad to have made you chuckle over Wilma and Millie, LOL! ;)

Hi Lady SHuttle Maker! I'm so glad to see that your migraine has let up enough for you to do some blog visiting! Good to have you stop by! Yes, there is plenty to do in 2009 and BEYOND and that is only because that's over a decade and a half's worth of UFO's! LOL!

Hi Kim! Thanks so much for sharing about the book with me. I have never heard of Ipswich lace. I left you a comment on that blog post about it...which you have probably read by now...if you ever read this comment, LOL!

LOL! YOU are a HOOT, Kathi! That is too funny...WIPPED with some LIPS! I think I am about whipped, too many UFO's!!! They're out of control, LOL! No, not really. They usually just don't bother me because I go on to MFP's (More Fun Projects~a new acronym introduced to me on this comment list by Anne B). Okay! I promise you will see some hearts for Valentines Day!!! See you later, Alligator!

Wow, Kelly! Enjoy your snowday! Hope you have enough tatting supplies to keep you occupied and happy! That's the thing about tatters-we love our snowdays, LOL! I guess I am out of luck here in So Cal! I'll just have to pretend some Saturday that I'm snowed in...or not.

Thanks, Laurie! I'll bet your UFO's are absolutely beautiful, too! You really put out quite the array of lovely FO's!

Hi! So glad to hear you have two hands! And yes, a good idea to use up our stashes, before buying more! I'll stick to that!!! (fingers crossed behind my back very tightly ;-)).
Thanks so much for leaving a comment - you are so speedy with getting your comment in, you put me to shame! She's okay, just sore. I think it was a painful one.

Happy New Year~~ I hope that 2009 is the best ever for you.
I will never look at UFO's the same way again. I have many myself. Some eventually get done and others stay UFO's.
Love this post~~~~~
Congrats on the award too. You surely have a blog that is a joy to visit. Thank you for sharing your talents.

See you again soon.
hugs, Celestina Marie

Ok, I must confess, I WASTED craft things a few months ago. I took about 90% of my UFO's and threw them away. It was so LIBERATING, you have no idea !!! To not have those projects hanging over my head. :) Now, the Problem is , In these last two months, I have almost as many NEW UFO's. Where does this madness end ? lol !! :) Happy New year !! :)

Yes, two hands, Lace Hearts! The better to tat with, my dear! Hope she feels less sore soon!

Thank you so much, Celestina Marie! I really appreciate your gracious comment. I'll bet your UFO's are some of the prettiest around!

Hi, Patty, thanks for stopping by. No, the UFO's are still the same, but thank you for asking! Enjoy your kitty angels!

Hi Miss Rhea, LOL! Yes, I can understand throwing away some UFO's. I've done it with other projects in other craft areas. I can't bring myself to do it with my tatting, though!

I'd just like to say that i would be thrilled to take any of them off of your hands... they are so beautiful! I, too, make tatted chokers! Yours are so lovely. I agree with Gina who said "Wish my UFO's looked that good!"

Your work is so lovely :)

Unknown said...

Very cool, Jenmeister! I hope you do try tatting! That would be awesome!

Hi Talia, thank you for your very sweet comment. I appreciate it. I need to finish my chokers, that's the thing!!!

WOW, your "tatting" is amazing. I'm not even sure I'm using that word right. How beautiful.
