Tat Like An Egyptian!

Do you recall that song "Walk Like an Egyptian"? It was really BIG in the 80's! Oh, the 80's!!! I was such an 80's girl...and if you've read this blog before you may already know that. This song was so much fun to dance to, sing about, and mimic while walking down the halls at school with my friends! This song has been going through my head ever since I got my order from Wally of Needles~N~Shuttles blog who spends part of her year living in Egypt!

Actually, Wally is from Puerto Rico. She is married to an Egyptian man and so she is "Egyptian" by marriage! When she lives in Egypt she goes to Cairo to purchase perle cotton threads for tatting and sells them in her shop, also called "Needles~N~Shuttles". She summers in Puerto Rico where it is quite a bit cooler than the Sahara Desert heat of Egypt! Wally met her husband while living in Egypt about three years ago. She has Lupus and works to spread awareness about Lupus and the effect it has on those affected by it. She spends her time tatting and making lots of designs. When I say "lots" I mean LOTS! She comes out with new designs CONSTANTLY! I've called her a "Tatting Machine" a few times because she seems to produce a voluminous amount of tatting...more than I've seen anyone else online produce! It's amazing!

~*~

So, after all that talk about Egypt

can you see how I had that song running

through my head!?!

I'd love to "Tat like an Egyptian"! She's amazing!

For those of you that need a little

refresher on that song, here it is:

Walk like an egyptian

Thanks, Steve!

Ah, doesn't that make you think of

Egyptian pyramids and the like?

I've got a photo right here of one.
Wh....what???

Okay, okay, it's an Egyptian Thread Pyramid,

but it still counts, right?

***

No?

***

Well, what if I showed you a close up on the

label of the thread?

Would you believe me then?

It still doesn't count as an Egyptian Pyramid?

***

Alrighty then, I'll show you a postcard

she sent me that is from Egypt that has a

picture of an Egyptian pyramid on it!
Is this better?

***

Welcome PFF'ers!

(I know, I know....it's Saturday....Shhhhh!)

***

Here's the back of the postcard along with some

goodies she sent along with my order as a surprise!

Thank you, Wally!

***

Inside the baggy of sequins was this beautiful

Mother of Pearl disc! Oh, the potential!!!

I could make a cool tatted pendant with

that disc attached!

***

Next is a sampling of her books.

I ordered these from her shop.

So, if you were wondering how do you

"tat like an Egyptian"?

Here's how!

This heart is from her book

"From My Heart".

*

It will count as

MOTIF # 7

in my 2nd round of the 25 Motif Challenge.

*

I made it with the pink perle cotton

thread pictured above.

This special heart pattern is named

after her husband "Hussein".

Awww....isn't that sweet!?

***

Now, if you are still in the mood for

some "Egyptian-ality"

Here is a very cool

Michael Jackson video I found!

Thank you JAYTONYNJ

~
*~

Thank you for your art and talent,

Michael!
May you Rest In Peace.

~*~

Well, thank you for joining me in my Egyptian adventures in tatting today! I tatted that heart up just for this post because I thought you might wonder what "Egyptian Tatting" looked like, LOL! It pretty much looks like "Irish Tatting", or "Scottish Tatting", "Danish Tatting", and even "German Tatting" doesn't it? LOL!

Where ever it is that you hail from I'd love to hear from you. Be sure to say hello before you go off on your travels through the wonderful land of Blog! Oh, and Wally says that if you want to see some real Egyptian dancing watch this video! It's cool!

Love,

XOXO

WIP It Good!!!

Does anybody remember "Devo"? LOL! Oh, I am sooooo an 80's girl and I'm okay with that. So what does tatting have to do with "Devo"? They had a song back in the 80's call "Whip it". One of the lines was "Whip it good!". Well, that's what I've been up to..."WIP"-ing it good! I've made some progress on my WIP (Work In Progress).

~*~

Here, I'll show you what I mean...
See?

I'm almost done with my "secret" WIP!

Now, I'm sure some of my tatting friends can
guess what pattern I've been up to, right?

Right, Jon? ;)

Do you like the shuttles?
They are from
Georgia Seitz.

~*~

For those of you totally stumped by my 80's flashback reference,
here's a hint.
(The rest of you can just reminisce in the insanity that was the 80's.)

Don't ya just love those red hats?
What was up with those things, anyway?
Ahhhhhh... memories
~*~

Thank you for letting me take you on a trip, yet again, down memory lane! You've been a fabulous passenger on this trip, LOL! Comments are welcome...as are any updates on any WIPs you might be working on!
WIP it! WIP it good!!!
Toodles,

I Want My...

...HDT!

What other three letters were you thinking I was going to put down? Could it be you were thinking, "I want my MTV"??? Hmmmm....? If you were thinking that then you were not far off the mark. I was typing this with that song in mind that was made popular by the rock band Dire Straits. "Money For Nothing" was the title of the song I was making reference to and it was popular in 1985.

Why another reference to a song from the 80's? Well, someone told me they were sick of the other song from my previous post. They said that they were being "tortured" by it, I might add. LOL! ;) I promised that someone a new song today. So there it is...a new song...from the 80's. I think this came to mind because I made a purchase from Lady Shuttle Maker's Etsy Shop as she was preparing to leave on her trip to China (lucky girl)! I was anxiously awaiting her return from her trip to China to fill my order. I really wanted my HDT! Get it? LOL!?!

I'm not a HUGE fan of that song, but it seemed fitting for this post. ;)

~*~

It FINALLY arrived today.

YAY!!!
I ordered some
Silk HDT Threads
and here they are.
Top: Silk "Coral Rose" Size 60
Middle: Silk "Seaweed" Size 60
Bottom: Silk "Helms Deep" Size 60

Both: Silk "Autumn Medley" Size 60

~*~

There was another reason that

I wanted my HDT!

I had also ordered from

Tatskool

who just opened up her own HDT shop!

It had to come all the way from Ireland to So. Cal so

it took a while, but it was worth the wait.

Let me show you what I got.

Top two: "Coral Reef" size 40

Third from top: "Solid Turquoise Blue" size 60

Third from bottom: "Deep Solid Blue" size 60

Bottom two "Blue Lagoon" size 60

Second: "Apple Blossom Solid Pink" size 40
Third: "Apple Blossom Solid Green" size 40
Fourth: "Apple Blossom" size 20
Bottom: "Apple Blossom" size 40

I have been drooling over Tatskool's thread that
I just showed you for months!
The following thread is one that many
internet HDT addicts worldwide are drooling over.
Can any of you fellow HDT addicts guess the name
of the "mystery thread" pictured below?

No, there's not a prize, just the satisfaction of knowing
you got it right, LOL! :)

~*~

Next I'd like to show you the lovely
wooden handcarved tatting shuttles
that I got from Noreen at
Hankering for Yarn!
This is the Little Bird Tatting Shuttle

Next is the Cute Hedgehog Tatting Shuttle.

**********

Note: The following photograph

contains a graphic image.

Please prepare yourself.

**********

Mr. Hedgehog Shuttle sustained
some fatal injuries on the journey
here and....
...sniff...sniff...
had to be "put down".
At least he died with a smile on his face.

~*~

After we've all had an appropriate moment of silence for Mr. Hedgehog shuttle, I just want to say how much I appreciate your love and support during this difficult time of loss. I cannot tell you how saddened I am.
Noreen from Hankering for Yarn is having a giveaway! Go check it out. She sends her condolences on Mr Hedgehog and has reassured me that a new one is on the way. If you would like a chance to own a Hedgehog shuttle or one of her many other giveaway items go check it out! Don't worry, they don't usually come that way, LOL! Let's just say it was the "postman's fault". I've gotten two other shuttles from Noreen that arrived safe and sound.
Comments are always welcome. Each one is read and appreciated; I can assure you.
Thanks for letting me show you the latest delve into my tatting addiction. Something tells me I'm not alone...
Tah tah for now,
TattingChic :)

I Want A New Drug...

"...one that won't make me sick...
...one that won't make me crash my car...
...or make me feel three feet thick...
One that won't make me nervous
Wondering what to do."

~*~

Remember the blessed 80's? Ah, yes, the wild, gluttonous 80's. This song by Huey Lewis and the News was a big hit in 1984. I would innocently sing along to the lyrics (above) never knowing that one day I would succomb to my drug habit; tatting.
Here's the thing, even hardcore HDT addicts need a "new drug" once in a while. Hence, the new Valdani threads I purchased this week from DS9Designs. Valdani threads are made in Romania. What makes them so special, you ask? Nothing in particular, they're just perle cotton. Perle cotton isn't the BEST for tatting because of it's loose twist, but it sure has a lovely sheen to it once it's all tatted up. I tend to be a tight tatter so the loose twist of the thread isn't an issue for me. Let me show you my latest "drugs" I purchased for my habit, LOL!
I purchased the following Valdani threads
for their beautiful colors.
I also got some matching
to go with the threads. I was impressed by
how well they matched the threads.

***

Algae and Delicate Rose
Valdani Perle Cotton size 12

Green Grass
Violette di Parma
....sigh....

Aren't they pretty?

You know I couldn't go through a
tatting spending spree without getting
my staple;
HDT!

These lovely Hand Dyed Threads
are from Yarnplayer's Etsy Shop.

I was pleasantly surprised
when I opened my package from her.
There was this beautiful hand tatted bookmark
from her with a thank you tag attached!
I believe this is done in her HDT called "Purple Punch".

Thank YOU, Marilee!

Next to arrive was this lovely
handcarved Buffalo Bone Lady Hoare Style Shuttle.
This was hand carved by Dave from
Grizzly Mountain Arts.
No animals were harmed to make
his beautiful hand carved
fiber art tools.

Doesn't Dave's Hand Carved Buffalo Bone Tatting Shuttle
look lovely paired with Marilee's Thank You Bookmark?

Let's take a closer look
at those finely detailed
carved roses framed by
some expertly tatted lace.

WOW!
How many people get to use works of art
to create a work of art?

***

That's what I'm going to be doing when I tat
up some lace with this Hand Carved Shuttle and Hand Dyed Thread.

What a treat~!

~*~

Thank you for letting me share my newest tatting treasures with you. I've been tatting up some fun things for fall this week, I will show you that later! Thanks for stopping by and I'd love to hear from you! Comments are always welcome.

(edited 1/17/09) P.S. Here's a little video for those of you that would like to indulge yourselves in Huey's music...
